Benzoyl Peroxide is an organic chemical that is found in most acne products. This chemical breaks down when in contact with the skin into a Benzoic Acid and Oxygen.

This chemical is usually administered in a gel or cream form in most acne treatments. The peroxide helps to clear away dead skin and keep pores clean and clear.

The chemical also has a tendency to dry out the skin but if applied in small doses at first, the skin will build up a tolerance for it and larger doses can be administered. Interestingly enough Benzoyl Peroxide can also be found in other products such as hair dye and teeth whitening  products because of its bleaching properties.
