There are many massage services that any day spa can offer. I want to explore one in particular, the deep tissue massage. What is it? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like. It is a massage that focuses on the muscles and tissue that lies deep in the body that is hard to get to; whereas, a regular massage focuses on the top layers and tissue. Now that you know the definition of a deep tissue massage is; I will continue by discussing a few different facts about this type of massage therapy that consumers should know about it.
How does it Work?
The way deep tissue massage therapy works is by getting deeper into the constricted muscle and tissue areas. For the most part this process is done for chronic muscle tension or for an injury. During the massage, the built up lactic acid is released. This acid is what causes your muscles to stiffen up.
The massage therapist will work on one part of your body at a time to ensure full focus on that body part, so be sure to tell him or her what areas you have the most pain so they can spend more time on those areas.
Some stages of the massage will be uncomfortable, while some parts will be relaxing. A good massage therapist should alternate between the painful areas and the areas where there is no pain. They should use some soothing strokes to lighten it up a little bit. If it starts to hurt too much, be sure to tell them because you can get injured during the massaging process.
You will experience some soreness the next day. This is caused from your muscles being completely relaxed, especially if you have never had this done before, but when all is said and done, your body will feel great from the massage.
How much is it?
This type of bodywork can be expensive. There are a few factors that determine the price; for example, if you were going to a private therapist you will probably pay around $85-$100 for a session, but if you are getting one at a luxurious hotel or on a cruise that has a spa, you will pay around $300 after tipping the massage therapist.
Can I do it?
There are plenty of individuals that want to learn how to be a masseuse. The good news is that the answer is yes, anyone can learn how to do it. There are videos on YouTube you can watch and books that you can read.
Of course you can always go to school to be a massage therapist where they will teach you the techniques and the proper way to give massages. This can be a very dangerous activity if you don’t know what you are doing, so please take the proper precautions if you choose to learn how to do any type of bodywork without taking the classes.
Deep tissue massages are great for relaxation and can be therapeutic. Although they are pricey, the curative effects far outweigh the cost. Next time your muscles are tight and stiff you have another option instead of reaching for the Advil. It is a more natural option, and who knows, maybe you can convince your spouse or significant other to learn how to give you one for a lot cheaper!
