What are Mini Dental Implants?

Miniature dental implants are a smaller, more affordable option than regular dental implants. They are minuscule titanium implants that serve the same function as a tooth.

How does it work?

The implant works as the root of the tooth has a small circular holder attached to it that helps to keep the denture implants in place. Having a mini dental implant inserted into the gum is a much less severe than other dental implants procedure.

What is it used for?

This type of dental implant is primarily used to help patients who wear dentures. These implants are placed in the gum to help steady the dentures.

Often times, patients have a difficult time keeping their false teeth from moving around. By placing them over the circular holder and snapping them into place, patients are able to steady the teeth better than with a traditional denture adhesive.

What are the benefits?

One of the greatest benefits of mini dental implants is that they can be used as a long term solution in finding supportive structures for false teeth. Using the implants to help in the stabilization of dentures, helps to cut down the discomfort and pain that often times goes along with them.

How long does it take?

It will usually take about 3 hours for the orthodonist to put in the implants, but result in the patient leaving the office with their new teeth securely in place. While at the dentist office the implants are put in using only mild anesthesia.

Four implants are placed into the patient’s lower jaw and matched up to the dental implants, allowing for a quick snap-on once they are set. Once they are set the patient can easily and securely place the new teeth, with no worry of them moving.

What are some other uses?

This type of dental surgery can also be used to support single crowns. These are necessary when there is not enough room in the gum for a regular implant. They are placed directly in the patients jaw bone with often times no need for an incision. The patient is able to walk out of the dentist office that day with an immediately brighter smile.

Over the last ten years, there has been much refining done to the design of mini dental implants. Extensive studies have resulted in a much more comfortable, thinner and smaller product that is a great alternative to full-size implants.
