The Risks of Cheap Dental Implants

Typically adults have around 32 permanent teeth. Twenty-eight of those teeth grow in by age 13 and the remaining four “wisdom teeth” will grow in by age 20 or later. We all know that we have to take care of our teeth on a daily basis with brushing and flossing to keep them healthy. These permanent teeth if not properly taken care can rot, or become weakened and more susceptible to chipping or breaking.

As we get older our teeth may need to come out for various reasons. When we lose a permanent tooth there are options available to have them replaced with synthetic teeth or “false teeth.” One option is to have dental implants which are a very secure way of “implanting” the false tooth into the jaw so that it acts more like a real tooth. There are risks with dental implants but those risks are magnified with cheap dental implants.

Implant surgery can run as high as $30,000 with little help from dental insurance that might as well be a million dollars. The temptation to use a cheaper dentist and implant is very high but be aware that the risks are far greater than with a qualified surgeon.

Why risk that beautiful smile with cheap dental implants?

THE RISKS:

The dental implants can lead to an infection of the gums and possible the jaw around the implant site.

They can become loose or even fall out requiring another operation to secure them in the bone properly.

Implants can even damage the surrounding teeth’s roots.

The nerves in the lips, the chin or in the sinus cavities can become damaged as well.

The sinuses can also be affected with implants that are placed in the upper jaw near the sinus cavities.

There is also a risk of the implant not properly integrating with the jaw bone or fracturing causing pain and another surgery to fix.

Another risk is that there may not be enough bone to even support the implant. In this case a bone graft may be necessary to build up the bone in that target area.

There are always risks associated with any surgery or operation and dental implants are no different. The risks do become amplified when we opt for an inexperienced dentist just because he or she was cheaper. Most dental implants have up to a 95% chance of success if performed with the proper implants and by the proper physician. Why chance the risk of complications and more surgeries, which could lead to more costs, just to have the initial bill cheaper?
