This article I want to explore the actual process of getting braces put on and some of the main steps involved.
First, the orthodontist will apply an adhesive that will bond the band to the tooth. The band is what separates the tooth from the bracket.
Next, dental cement will be used to bond the brackets to the bands and then they will be cured with light until it hardens. This step is like when you get a cavity filled and the dentist uses a light to harden the filling.
Finally, what is called an arch wire is threaded through the brackets and attached to them by a ligature elastic. This wire is the part that actually forces the teeth to move into position. At each appointed visit the wire will be bent, shaped and tightened until the teeth have moved into their desired position.
These are the main steps in most cases of a patient getting braces put on. There may be more steps involved depending on the individuals needs. We are all different and so are our teeth.
