Seeking massage services can be a bit scary at first, but it is well worth facing this small fear. I have yet to meet a massage therapist that was not welcoming and comforting. Places that provide massage therapy are soothing and relaxing. Often they also provide comforting music, lighting and aroma therapies.
Step 1: The Paperwork
The first step will be to fill out a simple form with basic medical history. This allows your therapist the chance to get to know you, enabling them to help you feel great and any areas they should avoid.
You choose whether you prefer a male or female therapist, it doesn’t matter to anyone but you so whatever makes you comfortable is fine. Make sure the experience is comfortable and as relaxing for you as possible.
Step 2: Consultation
The next step is a consultation with the massage therapist so that they may discover what goals you have: May it be relaxation, stress management, muscle tension, or targeting a specific region that is ailing you.
Step 3: Preparation
Then the massage therapist will leave the room so that you may undress. You only undress to your own comfort level, in this case I would recommend less is more, and then you lay on the table cover up with a sheet and relax. The therapists will then knock on the door to see if you are ready before he or she enters the room.
Step 4: The Massage
The massage therapist will firmly touch your shoulders, back and legs to get you familiar with their touch and start the massage. The massage is normally given with little communication, often not saying a word until your time is expired; feel free to tell your therapist if the pressure is too much or not enough.
Step 5: Time’s Up
When your time is up the therapist will then tell you to stay still until you feel ready to get up and to take your time getting dressed. Your massage is now complete and you should be feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and on top of the world.
Massaging can leave you feeling a bit sore so be sure to drink plenty of water! This will assist your body in not being sore later that day or the next morning. If you enjoyed the experience it is always good practice to tip your therapist.
