Our teeth are seated in our jaw bone and in our skull. How do braces reshape the formation of something that is rooted into bone? This is what I want to find out.
Our teeth, when braces are applied, take part in a phenomenon known as bone remodeling. The force of the braces cause the Periodontal ligament, a ligament that attaches our teeth to bone, to compress on the load bearing side and stretch on the opposite side.
The tooth then becomes loose and new bone cells are created to support the tooth’s new position. Then all that is needed is to repeat this process.
Braces move the teeth about 1 millimeter a month so after many months or even years you can see how the teeth will eventually move into their new desired position.
