The wearing of dentures has been around for thousands of years as early in human history as 700 B.C. There is even one archeological find that shows a skull dating back 4,500 years that has evidence of ground down teeth. They believe it was so that this person could put in ceremonial false teeth, apparently the skeleton was someone of status back then.
The material used has also progressed since then from being porcelain, bone, and even actual human teeth. That is an odd thought to know that the teeth in your mouth once belonged to someone else, typically deceased. Today we use rubbers and plastics to make the dentures. These materials along with some artistic ingenuity can be crafted into the realistic false teeth we enjoy today.
