I know a man that when he was in his 20’s he had all his teeth removed. Most of the teeth had either fallen out or had rotted because of poor hygiene. This man, now in his late 60’s, has worn dentures pretty much his entire life.
Within the last couple of years he has had them replaced with a new set. Like a pair of old eye glasses he kept the old pair of dentures just in case he needed to use them again.
He says that the new pair takes time to get used to and they rub on his gums a lot and this causes him discomfort. The first several days he said it was hard to eat because they would push on his gums and on occasion when he was talking, once to me, they would just come detached from his gums and fall down.
I realize that dental implants costs can be higher than traditional dentures but is all the irritation and trouble worth a few extra dollars?
