As a teenager, I suffered from severe acne for many years. I fought a losing battle to have clear skin. I tried many medicines and products to help reduce the blemishes, but it seemed that my face created more oil and zits quicker than the medicine could fight it. Now as an adult I still have pimples, but it is on a smaller scale, and breakouts are far and few between. Here are a few helpful acne solutions that use household items to help fight those untimely breakouts and have acne free skin.
Pimples are caused by a buildup of oil, dirt, dead skin and bacteria in the pores. While there is no miracle cure, there are plenty of tips, tricks and proven methods that do help.
There are many great home acne remedies that people can use. These are usually much safer than commercial products and are found, easily, in most homes. The trick is to find an acne remedy that doesn’t dry out the skin and cause more damage.
There are many types of foods that can act as an acne treatment. Many of these items are already in peoples’ refrigerators and are easily accessible.
Tomato
Tomatoes are an acidic fruit, and when applied to blemishes it can help to clear them up and help the user to become acne free. This fruit has many great qualities, internally and externally. They are packed full of Vitamins A and C. These vitamins can be found in many over the counter products sold for skin problems. If wearing tomatoes on your face doesn’t seem like a fantastic idea, try squeezing some of the juice out of the tomato. This can be applied to the face with a cotton ball, left on the face for a few minutes and rinsed off with cold water.
Avocado
Avocados help the skin by softening it. Many acne products and even some foods will dry out the skin. Avocados help to give some moisture back into the skin, and also make the skin stay healthier looking. Avocados can be mixed with other ingredients (such as tomatoes or lemon juice) to keep them from drying out the skin.
Garlic
Garlic is known to be a natural antibiotic. It can be used to help kill bacteria. Whole garlic cloves can be crushed down to make a paste. This may be a little time consuming for a teen. The other option that is easier is to buy garlic oil capsules. These capsules can be split open and the oil applied directly to the face. Garlic does not dry out the skin quite as bad as some other home remedies, and it seems to work a bit quicker.
Lemon Juice
Lemon Juice can help to lighten the skin and acne scars that are left behind. It is also an astringent that can fight off the bacteria. Using lemon juice can help, but it can also cause severe drying of the skin.
Lavender Oil
Lavender oil may not be a product that is found in a refrigerator, but it is essential in many home remedies. It is known for its calming effects on the body, but lavender oil can also be used as a disinfectant for the skin. When applied to the face it can clean the skin.
We have discussed some helpful strategies on how to get rid of acne that can help future teenagers. Keeping the pores clean and dry will help them from getting clogged, but if they do get clogged there are some household items that can help.
